TAP regrets strike. “We are doing our best to reach an agreement”

TAP said today that it respects and regrets the decision of the National Civil Aviation Flight Staff Union (SNPVAC) to go on strike this month and assured that it is doing everything possible to reach an agreement.

The SNPVAC will go ahead with a seven-day strike notice to work at TAP between January 25 and 31, according to a note sent to members.

“We respect and regret the SNPVAC’s decision and continue to do everything possible to reach an agreement that serves the best interests of the country, our customers, cabin crew and TAP,” said an official source from the airline.

According to the union’s statement, “fulfilling what was decided at the emergency general meeting on December 6, point 2”, which defined the “scheduling of a minimum of five days of strikes to be held until January 31 on dates defined by management and communicated to members 24 hours before the strike pre-notice”, the chairman of the general assembly (GA) of the union structure said that “was informed by the direction of the SNPVAC that a notice of 7 (seven) days of strike will be given tomorrow, corresponding to the days 25 to 31 January, inclusive”.

“I appeal, from now on, to the adhesion of all so that, once again, we can give full notice to the company of our union around the discontentment regarding the issues addressed and deliberated on the GA of November 3, which are our legitimate and responsible claims,” he said in the same statement.

On December 29, the SNPVAC general assembly rejected TAP’s proposal, maintaining its intention to hold a five-day strike until January 31, a union source told Lusa at the time.

Thus, the company’s proposal was rejected with 615 votes against, six in favor and one abstention, maintaining the possibility of moving forward with a five-day strike until January 31, as had been decided at the last assembly of the SNPVAC.

Recall that this union held a strike of TAP crew members on December 8 and 9, which led the airline to previously cancel 360 flights and had a total estimated impact of eight million euros.
